A former resident of Cumberland House won the federal NDP nomination for the riding of Saskatoon-Wanuskewin over the weekend.

Priscilla Settee defeated former Saskatoon mayor Jim Maddin on a second ballot at the nomination meeting.

A social activist and University of Saskatchewan faculty member, Settee says she views this win as a combined effort by a group of people ready for change.

Settee says if she wins a seat in Ottawa, she’ll be able to help educate fellow Parliamentarians on a number of issues — including ones facing Aboriginal people.

Settee’s opponents include Conservative incumbent Maurice Vellacott and Liberal newcomer Chris Axworthy.
