Sentence Handed Down In Wollaston Homicide

A 20-year-old Wollaston Lake man has been sentenced to six years in prison for the murder of a friend from the community.

John Baptiste Tsannie was originally charged with aggravated assault after severely injuring 25-year-old Marvin George Hansen in a fight last summer.

However, the charge was later upgraded to second-degree murder after it was learned Hansen died from the beating.

According to an agreed upon statement of facts presented in court last week, Tsannie and Hansen initially got into a fistfight at a house party.

Tsannie kicked Hansen a couple of times while he was down after the scrap spilled out onto the street.

Tsannie apologized in court this past Friday, but still received the six-year jail sentence.

Because of credit he’s received for time already served, Tsannie’s time in prison will actually work out to a little over four years.
