Senate Committee To Hear From FSIN On Land Claims

Representatives of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations are in Ottawa to address the Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples.
The committee will hear from the FSIN and the Auditor General of Canada this evening as they continue to study the federal government’s specific claims policy.
Many native leaders say the Aboriginal occupation in Caledonia is the direct result of the backlog of Aboriginal land claims in Canada.
Some are predicting even more confrontations unless the land claims process is drastically sped up.
The FSIN delegation appearing before the committee today includes Pasqua Chief Elaine Chicoose and FSIN specific claims director Jayme Benson.
