The remains of a missing man from the Flying Dust First Nation have been found in a ditch off a northern Saskatchewan highway.

42-year-old Darwin Victor Merasty was last seen in La Ronge on October 29th.

Before leaving the town, he had indicated he was planning to hitch hike to Prince Albert, and then either take a bus or hitch hike to his home in the Meadow Lake area.

A search was instigated a few days after Merasty disappeared.

On Sunday, searchers found his body in a ditch off Highway 916, about 67 kilometres west of Highway 2.

The Mounties say it doesn’t appear foul play was involved, but an autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death.

The RCMP say temperatures in that area since Merasty had gone missing had dipped to below -15 degrees Celsius.
