The chair of a school board in Prince Albert says he hopes money problems with a local First Nation can be settled quickly.

Wayne Steen of the Saskatchewan Rivers School Division says he doesn’t intend to remove any of the students from the Muskoday First Nation who attend the division’s schools in Prince Albert.

However, he says his board needs to know when the band will begin re-paying the $800,000 that is owed to the division.

Steen says the school division is currently amalgamating with another one and it will need the funds soon.

Steen says about 150 Muskoday band members study in the division.

He fully expects to reach a friendly compromise.

Band officials have not been immediately available for comment.
