After years of delays, it appears a sawmill will finally be built near Beauval this year.
North West Communities Wood Products announced today that a small log softwood sawmill and post plant will be up and running at Beauval Forks this summer.
It will be operated by the company’s subsidiary, Beauval Forest Industries.
The wood for the mill will come from the Jack Pine timber block east of Beauval.
President Robert Bouvier says the company still needs to finalize financing arrangements with the banks.
Bouvier says 30 jobs will be created at the mill itself, with another 40 jobs created through the harvesting and hauling of timber.
Beauval has been waiting for a sawmill ever since former premier Roy Romanow announced the province’s forest expansion in the late 1990s.
A lack of an industrial partner and the ongoing softwood lumber dispute has waylaid those plans until now.
