SaskParty Puts Inner City Project On Backburner

Residents of Saskatoon’s core neighbourhoods and those involved with an inner city project say they will not give up the fight to see Station 20 West built.

The complex is supposed to eventually be situated on Saskatoon’s west side and feature a one-stop-shop with a library, grocery store, and clinic — as well as affordable housing across the street.

The project was slated to be jointly funded by federal, provincial, and municipal dollars.

However, the Saskatchewan Party government has said it will not be providing the $8 million the previous NDP government had promised.

Reverend Shawn Sanford-Beck is a resident of the inner city.

He says even though Station 20 West hasn’t been built, it has become a sign of hope for many people in the area — and that they are valued.

Board members say they are giving the provincial government one week to meet with them.

If that doesn’t happen, they say they will once again take their case to the public and hold a rally — because they believe they have the public’s support.
