SaskParty In No Rush To Find Cumberland Candidate

A nomination meeting for the Saskatchewan Party in the Cumberland riding could still be several weeks away, according to an official with the party.

Executive director Bob Mason says they don’t plan to rush the process despite recent speculation the province could be headed to the polls sooner rather than later.

Some pundits feel an early vote might be coming now that former Corrections Minister Kevin Yates has been dumped from cabinet admidst rumours he’s no longer behind Premier Lorne Calvert.

Mason says his party has been in election-readiness mode for about a year now, just in case, but the plan is to proceed with nominations at the normal speed.

He says the only timeframe they have right now is to see things happen before the end of November.

The Cumberland Riding is currently held by NDP MLA Joan Beatty, who also serves as the province’s Northern Affairs minister.
