The Saskatchewan Party says news of a road link between northern Alberta and northern Saskatchewan is welcome, but must be part of a broader vision for the North.

Opposition Highways and Transportation critic Randy Weekes says this road is not enough, adding the NDP government has to present a long-term plan for northern economic and social development.

Weekes says, in particular, there needs to be more attention paid by the Calvert government to the oil sands potential in Saskatchewan.

He also says the government has to have a blueprint for job creation in northern Saskatchewan itself, noting the job opportunities in Fort McMurray are yet another enticement for Saskatchewan residents to move to Alberta.
