The family of a Saskatoon man who alleges the police used excessive force during an arrest say they have met with the police about the incident, and have filed a complaint.

On Sunday around 7 p.m., Saskatoon police were called to an altercation in the 500 block of Avenue G South.

The officers arrested 20-year-old Rodderique Caisse in the back alley between Avenues F and G South.

Caisse and some witnesses are alleging police brutality, saying the officers went too far when handcuffing the man.

The Caisse family enlisted the help of the Metis Nation – Saskatchewan (MNS), which helped set up a meeting between the family and the city police’s internal investigations unit.

Family members say they have also filed a complaint with the provincial complaints commission.

The MNS is trying to set up further meetings with the City of Saskatoon as well as Mayor Don Atchison, who is the head of the police commission.
