Saskatchewan Uranium Giant Cutting Positions

A spokesman for Cameco says the company is laying off approximately 30 people around the province.

Gord Struthers notes some of those will happen at the Cigar Lake uranium operation, but many of the employees are being offered other positions within the company.

As a result, Struthers says some construction projects at Cigar Lake are being put on hold.

However, he says the move just makes sense considering the mine still has to be dewatered.

Struthers notes the company’s budget for 2009 is still listed at between $250 million and $300 million, so he feel Cameco is still in good shape.
