A spiritual elder from the Sweetgrass First Nation is preparing to leave for Europe this weekend.
Philip Favel fought in the Second World War and will head back to the battleground in a few days’ time to honour the spirits of fallen First Nations and Metis war veterans overseas.
He will be joined by fellow war veterans Howard Anderson of the Gordon First Nation, George Horse of the Thunderchild First Nation and elder Lawrence Eyahpaise of Beardy’s.
Favel says heading back to Europe is an honour.
He just wishes the details of the trip were being made clearer to him and the other elders, and adds he doesn’t know who is supposed to lead which ceremony.
Still, Favel says he is looking forward to the trip, and is sure everything will work out.
