Saskatchewan Metis Woman Earns National Award

A banquet will be held tonight in Ottawa to honour Aboriginal women who have donated time and effort to make their communities better.

Isabelle Impey, a Metis outreach worker with ties to Cumberland House, is one of the people who will receive an Aboriginal Women of Leadership Distinction Award.

A worker on the Alternative Dispute Resolution circuit, Impey is well known for trying to help people in need by making up food boxes or counselling troubled women.

She says she’s honoured by the award and enjoys her work.

Impey says she isn’t able to attend tonight’s gala as she is taking care of her aunt who is recovering from surgery.

Two of her friends who are from Cumberland House will be there in her place.
