Saskatchewan’s minister responsible for highways says he wants northerners to know his department is working on their roads.

Buckley Belanger says he respects the peaceful protest that was staged at Stanley Mission during the National Aboriginal Day of Action.

The band members were protesting the state of roads in the north, particularly the one leading to their reserve.

Belanger says the province has stepped to the plate by committing $475 million to roads throughout the province, by far the biggest amount in history.

He says the Federal Government is not doing enough on the issue.

The minister adds he looks forward to working with northerners on the roads issue and finding solutions to the various problems.
