Saskatchewan Commercial Fishers Ramp Up Production

The Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation says this has been a banner year for commercial fishers in Saskatchewan — but they won’t be getting any final payments this year.
The FFMC says the province’s commercial fishers, who are situated mainly in the north, received total returns that were 52% higher this fiscal year than the year before — an increase of over $1.3 million.
The corporation also says fish deliveries were up nearly 750,000 kg and the fishery increased in size by almost 70 licensed fishers.
Even with the increase in the number of fishers, the average income was up 28% in the province.
However, the FFMC says there will be no final payment cheques forwarded to fishers this fall because the corporation says they received strong initial payments throughout the season.
