For years, people living on the Saskatchewan side of Flin Flon haven’t been able to get access to the same funding programs as the rest of northern Saskatchewan.

That’s all going to change this spring, because the Northern Municipalities Act is being amended.

Until now, the Act didn’t mention the border area of Flin Flon.

According to John Edwards, the executive director of the policy branch of Saskatchewan Municipal Affairs, the law is being changed so the city of Flin Flon can access funds for things like sewer and water facilities on the Saskatchewan side of the border.

The changes are expected to become law in about mid-May, and be retroactive to April 1st.

About 240 people live in the Flin Flon boundary area.
