Sandy Bay Mom Gets Her Son Back

A mother from Sandy Bay was re-united with her 8-year-old son this week after repeatedly being denied access to him for over a year.
Shannon Morin’s son was taken by the boy’s paternal grandmother in February of last year over concerns about the boy’s welfare.
Up until this week, the boy was living and going to school in Pelican Narrows under the care of his grandparents.
RCMP Corporal Brian Jones says the Mounties allowed that situation to continue while allegations against Morin were investigated, which turned out to be completely false.
Jones says the local detachments made the necessary arrangements for the reunion this week after recently being alerted about the situation.
Jones says the investigation had to run its course, but admits the Mounties could have arranged the boy’s return much sooner after the boy’s mother was cleared of any wrongdoing.
Jones says the RCMP detachments in Sandy Bay and Pelican Narrows are reviewing why the matter took so long to resolve.
