Efforts are being made to contain the spread of the H1N1 virus in Sandy Bay.
Mayor Ina Fietz-Ray says residents are pulling together to limit the effect of the virus, with a strict campaign of hand-washing and other prevention techniques.
Earlier this week, it was confirmed that two people in the northern village have mild cases of the virus, also known as swine flu.
Fietz-Ray says those people are currently at home recovering.
The village has been holding conference calls with health agencies, followed by information broadcasts on the local radio station, to keep residents informed about what they need to do.
Mayor Fietz-Ray says she’s confident her community will make it through this challenge, but everyone needs to work together.
At last word, the North’s Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. James Irvine, was reporting five cases of H1N1 in northern Saskatchewan, with several other cases suspected.
Dr. Irvine says special efforts are being made to help Sandy Bay, due to its proximity to Manitoba, where several northern reserves have experienced outbreaks of the H1N1 flu.
