A judge in Prince Albert has sentenced a northern woman to three years behind bars for causing the deaths of two women near La Ronge.

27-year-old Lily Sanderson began crying soon after the judge handed down his sentence this afternoon at Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench.

She will begin serving her sentence immediately for the May 2005 single vehicle rollover that claimed the lives of 25-year-old Talitha Sanderson and 23-year-old Laura Lee Isbister and injured two other men.

The judge said some of the factors contributing to his decision include the lack of evidence of her alleged emotional difficulty over the accident. He also said he found no acceptance of responsibility, statement of remorse or acknowledgement of her drinking problem.

He said her actions left six children without a mother and a community devastated.

Sanderson will also be barred from driving for three years after her release.
