Legal action might be launched against authorities in Prince Albert by the family of a deceased First Nations woman.

The lawyer for the family of Linda Sahpassum says a claim can probably be filed under the Fatal Accidents Act.

Kris Eggum says he still doesn’t understand why hospital staff allowed police officers to take the Big River band member away on a charge of public drunkenness the night she died.

Eggum adds he also doesn’t understand why officers didn’t help the woman out of the police car when they arrived at the station.

He notes both officers testified that Sahpassum needed assistance getting into the vehicle when they picked her up.

An inquest into the woman’s death wrapped up yesterday in Prince Albert.

It heard that the woman was suffering from low blood sugar the night she died, and wasn’t intoxicated.
