Runoff Posing A Potential Problem In Far North

Any more spring precipitation could cause problems in the province’s Far North — according to the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority.

Authority spokesman Doug Johnson says spring run-off in the North was already expected to be higher than usual this spring — but the recent spring storm that brought as much as 56 centimetres of snow in places has prompted predictions of even higher water flows.

Johnson says, while flooding isn’t anticipated at this point, northern communities should still be aware of the possibility.

He adds that outfitters in the Athabasca Basin will likely be the first to know if the flooding potential will become a reality.
