Rulings in Metis Election Appeals a Month Away

The lawyer for the Metis Elections Commission says it could be some time before any decisions are rendered on last week’s appeals.

Clark McKay says the three senators who chaired last week’s proceedings in Prince Albert will be spending the next month looking over the evidence submitted and making their decisions.

McKay says all the candidates involved will be notified by letter of the senator’s rulings.

He also defends the commission’s decision not to make the hearings open to the public, saying it was done in the interests of time and privacy.

McKay says that decision most likely sped up the week-long process.

He also says the commission also did not allow the government to sit in on the proceedings as it was an internal matter.
