A partnership agreement between an Aboriginal group and the Royal Bank is being signed today in Nipawin.

The deal sees the bank joining the Nipawin Representative Worforce as a full-time member.

That means it will actively look to make its workforce more representative of the Aboriginal community it serves.

Lorna Nicol, the coordinator of the workforce, says today’s agreement is a step forward for the entire community.

Nichol notes more and more businesses are understanding the benefits of recruiting First Nations and Metis workers.

In fact, she says she doesn’t have to approach businesses about signing up — they come to her.

The Royal Bank is the 18th partner to sign on to the deal. Other partners include the Town of Nipawin, the Nipawin Chamber of Commerce, the Cumberland House Cree Nation, the Red Earth Cree Nation and the Shoal Lake Cree Nation.
