Roundtable Meeting Gets Mixed Reviews

The head of New North admits some of his fellow mayors are tired of bringing the same issues to the provincial cabinet year after year.
Cumberland House mayor Dale McAuley says he is appreciative of the six cabinet ministers who took time out last week to visit northern mayors in La Ronge.
But McAuley says there weren’t too many promises made by the ministers, and some of the mayors are growing weary of continually bringing up housing, highway maintenance and economic development concerns.
McAuley says there needs to be more emphasis placed on economic development.
He feels the North needs a mega-project completely owned and operated by northerners, such as a new mine or a sawmill.
