Roth “Surprised” By MNS Senate Dismissals

The disputed president of the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan says he hasn’t been told why three MNS senators have been dismissed.

Dwayne Roth says he was suprised to learn Gilbert Pelletier, John Boucher and Joseph Perrault were removed from the MNS Senate recently.

Those three sat on the Metis Elections Commission, which oversaw the controversial MNS election in 2004 that eventually saw Roth declared the winner.

Roth admits this type of move is rare because Metis senators are usually in office for life.

MNS Senate chair Nora Cummings hasn’t been available for comment, but in a letter to MNS leaders she says the dismissals were carried out to ensure the Senate’s credibility. She also claims the measures were done within MNS guidelines.
