Roth Interrupts Walk to Meet with Federal Minister

The federal minister in charge of Metis affairs is meeting with Metis Nation – Saskatchewan president Dwayne Roth today.

Roth is taking time away from his protest walk to Regina to make the meeting happen.

Today’s get-together between Roth and Andy Scott is expected to deal with federal funding the MNS normally gets each year.

It was apparently cut off when the provincial government announced its funding to the MNS was being suspended over the Metis election squabble.

After a recent trip to Ottawa, Roth thought he had secured about 1.5 million dollars in funding for various initiatives to be administered by the MNS.

But Metis Relations Minister Maynard Sonntag threw cold water on that announcement by getting assurances from both Scott and the Heritage minister that no funds would be going to the MNS while the election fallout was still being sorted out.

Members of the Provincial Metis Council and others plan to continue Roth’s protest walk to Regina in his absence.
