Room Designed With Survivors In Mind

The Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs Community Development Corporation provided a $4,000 cheque to Miwayawin Health Services in the Battlefords on Friday.

The money went to cover costs for a special room at Miwayawin.

It’s designed primarily for elders to talk to lawyers about their time in residential schools — but it’s also available for others.

The room is decorated in warm burgundy and yellow colours, with comfortable furniture and words like “Family”, “Harmony” and “Love” on the walls.

Elder Ethel Stone loves the room.

Stone calls it a “place of healing” where Aboriginal people can come and take comfort, and have elders “support them through their journey of re-living the past”.

The room was developed over the Christmas season.
