Road To Dam Near Sandy Bay Washed Out

Flooding is forcing SaskPower to make alternate arrangements to transport their employees to the Island Falls hydro dam.

The service road between nearby Sandy Bay and the hydro station is now impassable after heavy rainfall this week.

SaskPower spokesman Larry Christie says the utility needs those workers to regulate the record water levels going through the dam, so that’s why arrangements have been made to transport them by boat.

Christie says some water is also approaching the hydro station work area itself, and efforts are underway to keep that area safe for workers.

Christie also says, despite rumours to the contrary, the dam is not in any danger of breaching.

The rising water levels are forecast to crest next week.
