New research suggests that being poor has far more impact than being Aboriginal, when it comes to considering suicide.
A study on the links between income, Aboriginal status and suicide appears in the new issue of the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry.
The study reveals that high-income white Canadians are in fact more likely to consider suicide than Aboriginals in a similar income bracket.
Although Aboriginal people were more likely to have suicidal thoughts at some point in their lives, this statistic changed when household income was taken into account.
Today is World Suicide Prevention Day.
