Residential School Victims Looking For Answers

A number of residential school survivors are in Saskatoon for the next couple of days, hoping to get their questions answered.

The FSIN is hosting what it’s calling a residential school information sharing conference.

Officials closely connected to the national scene are on hand for a series of question-and-answer sessions.

They include the assistant deputy minister of Indian Residential Schools Resolution Canada, the executive director of the National Residential School Survivors Society, and the interim executive director of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

The question that’s on most survivors’ minds is when compensation payments will actually be made — and what kind of delay a dispute over legal fees might create.

The earliest estimates regarding when the cheques will be sent out is August or September, but some say it could be well into next year before that happens.
