Residential School Survivors To Get Payments

It looks like residential school survivors might get their compensation cheques in the fall, after all.
The Saskatchewan Court of Appeal has dropped a stay of proceedings related to the compensation agreement.
That stay was put in place in January when Ottawa appealed the legal fees that would be paid out under the settlement.
That move essentially halted the compensation process and threatened to delay the issuing of cheques well into 2008.
However, the court ruled yesterday that there was no need to hold up the payments while the government and victims’ lawyers continue to bicker about the legal fees.
