Residential School Settlement Education Continues

An office responsible for handling calls about the residential schools settlement process says there is still a lot of misinformation out there.

Rhonda Herman is a call centre representative working for the courts.

She says people only need to call if they have an objection to the settlement that they want heard and considered at a settlement appeal hearing.

However, Herman says many people are calling the toll-free number being advertised thinking it’s a way to register for compensation — but Herman says they are nowhere near that stage.

She adds the call centre has been very busy since the advertisements went out.

The deadline to submit concerns about the settlement is August 25th.

The court hearings held in Saskatchewan will take place on September 18th, 19th and 20th.
