Residential School Gathering Hailed as a Success

A band councillor from the Gordon First Nation says this week’s gathering for survivors of the residential school experience has surpassed his expectations.
Dennis Bird says approximately 400 people are attending the event at the southern Saskatchewan reserve, including several people from out of the province.
The conference is scheduled to wrap up later today.
The purpose of the gathering was to give students who may have suffered past abuses more knowledge of the legal options open to them – should they decide to seek compensation from the government.
Bird says the event is something he and other members of the band have wanted to do for a long time.
Bird says another conference on the subject will likely take place in the future.
