Reserve Status For PBCN Gas Bar Up In The Air

An official with the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation says the band is still waiting to hear word about when its new gas bar can go tax-free.
Last fall, the band began constructing a new Petro Canada station on Prince Albert’s West Hill.
The hope was that the business would be granted reserve status by as early as this spring.
The gas bar is now up and running, but unable to offer tax-free fuel or tobacco.
The band’s general manager, Trevor Ives, says that’s because the Privy Council in Ottawa did not meet over the summer, and they are the ones who have to sign off on the deal.
He’s hopeful the gas bar will offer tax-free savings sometime later this year.
