Report On Metis Electoral Reform Due Tomorrow

The Metis Electoral Consultation Panel will release its report tomorrow.

Metis Relations Minister Maynard Sonntag will receive a copy of the report tomorrow morning in Regina.

The provincial government’s official response is expected by the end of the summer.

The panel, led by chair Maria Campbell, held consultation meetings with Metis citizens in several communities earlier this year to get feedback about last year’s disputed Metis Nation of Saskatchewan election.

MNS president Dwayne Roth has said in the past that everyone knows the report will contain a recommendation that a new election be held, something he says the MNS will support under the right conditions.

Roth says the provincial government has been wasting time by choosing not to deal with the MNS prior to the report’s release.
