Renowned Anti-Nuke Activist Visits Saskatchewan

A famous anti-nuclear activist is in Saskatchewan to give a series of presentations this week.
Dr. Helen Caldicott will begin her speaking tour in Regina today. She has also scheduled events in Saskatoon.
Caldicott is expected to meet with First Nations leaders, elders, university students and provincial politicians to discuss uranium development issues.
Caldicott says northern Aboriginal people need to be made aware they are “pawns” in the mining industry. She says companies like Cameco and AREVA are “the ones making the money” and deciding where Aboriginal people will be employed.
Caldicott also believes it is “grossly immoral” for mining companies to use Aboriginal employment as an excuse to mine uranium “that could cause the end of all life on earth with a nuclear war”.
During her speaking engagements this week, Caldicott will be covering topics from her new book, Nuclear Power Is Not The Answer.
Caldicott co-founded Physicians for Social Responsibility — an organization that was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985.
