A spokeswoman for Indian Affairs says it is moving to address the flooding concerns of several southern bands.
Patricia Valladao says her department has formally presented the Muscowpetung , Paqua, Cowessess and Sakimay bands with compensation offers for the flooding they have gone through.
The first nations have long complained that dams along the Qu’Appelle Valley water system have interfered with their traditional activities.
Valladao won’t say how much the government has offered, only that the bands are being given time to consider it.
At the same time Valladao says that particular offer doesn’t apply to the Ochapawace or Piapot first nations which have also laid flooding claims.
Valladao was unable to say how long the bands have to consider the offer.
