Red Earth Teen Charged in Bizarre Hit and Run

A 16-year-old boy from the Red Earth First Nation has been charged in connection to a fatal hit-and-run in the community earlier this year.

The teenager has been charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident and made a court appearance on the charge today in Carrot River.

19-year-old Dane McKay, also of the Red Earth First Nation, was killed in the early morning hours of August 15th after being struck by a vehicle while lying on a road in the community.

The vehicle that struck McKay left the scene before police and emergency personnel arrived.

It’s still not clear why the victim was lying on the road.
