Recourse For Survivors Who Mistakenly Opt Out

A community outreach worker says there are safeguards in place if residential school survivors accidentally opt out of the compensation process.
Alma Favel-King has been commissioned by the Assembly of First Nations to help educate survivors in Saskatchewan.
She has heard the stories that some former students have inadvertently signed opt-out forms after receiving them in the mail.
But she says the federal government will send out a confirmation form in the mail at some point to make sure survivors do, in fact, want to opt out.
Favel-King says, to her knowledge, only 19 people have signed the opt-out forms.
