An Ontario man has received the largest fine ever handed down in this province for outfitting without a licence and for hunting out of season.

Jeffrey R. Wolfe was recently fined $175,000 under the Wildlife Act for leading American hunters on hunts for moose, bear, white-tailed deer and elk north of Meadow Lake in the fall of 2005.

Saskatchewan Environment spokesman Gary Provencher says Wolfe made about $87,000 through the hunts.

Provencher says the courts wanted to send a message to other people who may be committing similar crimes.
