A Stony Rapids woman is suing the RCMP, saying she was arrested and kicked in a jail cell in the community.

According to her lawyer Jack Hillson, Angeline (Angie) MacDonald was arrested on June 8, for reasons that are unknown to him.

Hillson says MacDonald was taken into the Stony Rapids detachment, where, she alleges, she was kicked in the leg by the officer in charge, and left on the concrete floor overnight.

In the morning, she received medical attention, and it was decided that she would be sent to Saskatoon for further treatment.

Hillson says MacDonald continues to receive treatment.

“She’s had a couple of operations since then. She’s had blood transfusions, she’s had skin grafts, she’s going to be in Royal University Hospital probably for a few weeks. We don’t know what the prognosis is in terms of in terms of whether she’ll be able to walk again,” Hillson says.

“So, (they are) quite serious injuries, and the family and Angeline MacDonald are of course very upset,” he adds.

Hillson says there may be an internal investigation being performed by RCMP, and the family has launched a civil action lawsuit against the RCMP and the officer accused.

The RCMP has not been immediately available for comment.
