RCMP Say Liquor Involved In Fatal Crash On Reserve

A fatal single vehicle rollover on the Big Island Lake reserve this past weekend has resulted in charges to the alleged driver.

 

Eric George has been charged with impaired driving causing death and impaired driving causing bodily harm.

 

The RCMP say he was driving a van that was traveling east when it went off the reserve’s East Road and into the south ditch on Saturday evening.

 

Two women were injured in the crash, and were taken to the hospital in Cold Lake, Alberta.

 

34-year-old Marina Kahpoonapit from Big Island Lake eventually succumbed to her injuries.

 

A 48-year-old women was also hurt, but her injuries are described as non-life-threatening.

 

George made his first court appearance yesterday in Meadow Lake.

 

He will be back in court on October 20th in Big Island Lake.
