The RCMP say more charges could still be laid against individuals who pelted officers with stones on the Clearwater River Dene Nation last Friday.

Spokeswoman Heather Russell says the trouble began when officers drove to the reserve to check out reports of angry band members tossing chairs.

The officers attempted to take one resident into custody whom they believed responsible, but were forced to pepper spray him when he resisted arrest.

Russell says the two officers were then pelted with stones when they escorted the man back to their cruiser.

Russell says the trouble appeared to break out when results of an election on the reserve were read aloud.

Incumbent chief Roy Cheechum emerged victorious in that vote and will serve another four-year term in office.
