A top-ranking RCMP officer confirms an investigation has been launched into an alleged incident at the Stony Rapids detachment.

North District operations officer Randy McGinnis confirms an officer from the community has been temporarily transferred elsewhere while an investigation is carried out.

A local woman is suing the RCMP, saying she was kicked while being taken to cells.

Angeline MacDonald says the incident happened on June 8, resulting in her being sent to Saskatoon for medical treatment.

McGinnis says the RCMP are treating the matter seriously, and he’s hoping the investigation can be completed in a few weeks time.

“We’ve basically moved him (the accused officer) because he’s been placed on administrative duty, and to facilitate that, we just couldn’t accomplish it in Stony Rapids,” McGinnis says.

He adds that once the RCMP has wrapped up its investigation, the file will be sent to Saskatchewan Justice.
