An investigation into allegations of RCMP abuse against a Metis elder is taking less time than expected.

It was during the last week of October that Jacob Lavallee, a 67 year-old resident of Montreal

Lake, alleges he was confronted by two officers at his house who werevlooking for his nephew.

Lavallee claims he was roughly mishandled by the officers after he tried to go back into his home to tell his wife he was going with them.

Officials with the RCMP have been looking into the elder’s complaint and now say they’re hopeful the

investigation will be wrapped up in a matter of weeks instead of months.

They also say all the sources involved are local ones and that is helping speed up the process.

Montreal Lake is policed by officers out of the RCMP detachment in Waskesiu.

The Metis Nation of Saskatchewan is also involved in the investigation, and has retained a lawyer to monitor the probe.
