The RCMP’s underwater recovery team has left Sandy Bay after unsuccessfully trying to recover the body of a four-year-old boy yesterday.

The child is missing and presumed drowned after falling into the Churchill River earlier this week while playing alongside the river edge with two other children.

RCMP spokeswoman Heather Russell says the RCMP divers gave up the search late yesterday afternoon.

Russell notes the search will be continued by the local volunteer fire department, the Sandy Bay detachment of the RCMP and local residents.
