An official with the Office of Residential Schools Resolution Canada confirms the department is examining more requests from schools that want to be added to the list of institutions eligible for payouts.

Valerie Heche says a decision should come down in the within the next five weeks.

The implications are significant, since any former student who wants compensation needs to have attended an institution recognized by Ottawa as a residential school.

The president of the Metis local in Ile-a-la-Crosse, Don Favel, says he hopes his community’s boarding school is added to that list.

Favel adds there is a rumour floating around that an official announcement is coming November 19th that will see the Ile-a-la-Crosse schools and three other institutions added to the settlement agreement — but he says can’t get confirmation of that.

Heche adds her office is looking at around 400 different applications right now.

She says there is no way of telling how many, if any, will be included in the settlement.
