Racially based vandalism occurring over the past 5 years, is beginning to take its toll on one Saskatoon family.
In a report published by the Saskatoon Star Pheonix, a local Aboriginal family, continues to fall victim to racially motivated vandalism, which began after the mother and daughter moved into their north-end neighbourhood home 5 years ago.
The woman, who did not want to be identified, says she moved into the north-end area because of the reputed low crime rate, but now she and her daughter are afraid of future incidences.
The woman says the vandalism began within in a month of moving into her home 5 years ago.
Amoung several incidences, the aboriginal woman says her black mustang has been egged and in the most recent event, racist slander was scratched into the side of the car.
However, in this act, which occurred last month, the woman says – QUOTE “They didn’t even spell squaw right.”
Although the police have been notifide about the events, the woman and her daughter have said they fear that more violence will surface.
