Questions Remain About Cree Lake Drilling Project

A trapper in the Patuanak area still has some questions following a meeting with Titan Mining officials last night.

The company, which is planning to explore Cree Lake for uranium by drilling through the ice this winter, hoped the meeting would help clarify its plans — especially after band officials expressed concerns about environmental issues.

Trapper Andrew John says company officials mostly spoke about how they control spills and contamination, but he still isn’t totally convinced the project is a good idea.

John was hoping to find out how the drilling might affect his livelihood, but says he ended up leaving more confused than before.

He maintains that about 60 per cent of those in attendance were just as confused as he was.

John feels that it is nearly impossible for the company to have no environmental impact while working on such a large-scale job.

He hopes to have a meeting with government officials before the drilling gets underway.
