Questions Linger About Reserve Water Strategy

A chief in Ontario says questions are being asked by First Nations leaders about how new water regulations will work on reserve.

Stan Lutit of the Muswaga Tribal Council is one of a handful of people touring the country in an effort to get feedback over the issue.

Earlier this year Indian Affairs Minister Jim Prentice announced he wanted to ensure drinking water on reserves was up to national standards.

Lutit says many chiefs support the idea, but already there are concerns the plan is being rushed.

He also promises the panel will write down all the suggestions it receives before submitting them to Jim Prentice.

Public hearings on the safe drinking water initiative begin next week in Saskatoon.
